History

2014 – Establishment of AMICON

Certified Welding & Fabrication

AMICON was founded in 2014 by Symen de Boer as a certified welding and fabrication company serving the offshore and maritime industries. From the outset, we operated as a subcontractor, manufacturing high-quality structural components and equipment in full compliance with applicable international quality standards and certification requirements. Our strong focus on quality, safety, and precision enabled us to deliver complex, project-driven solutions that enhanced both productivity and operational reliability for our clients.

2017 – Launch of In-House Engineering

In 2017, we established our in-house engineering department to streamline work preparation processes and to support the development of proprietary equipment.

This strategic expansion allowed us to successfully design and fabricate a wide range of specialized offshore and maritime equipment, including cranes, A-frames, moonpool trolleys, and other complex steel structures. By integrating engineering and fabrication, we strengthened our ability to deliver fully optimized, tailor-made solutions from concept to execution.

2019 – Entry into Offshore Wind

In 2019, we secured our first offshore wind contract: the delivery of 90 Internal Platforms for the Windpark Fryslân.

This large-scale project encompassed the complete scope of work, including engineering, fabrication, coating, assembly, and sea transport of the finished structures. The successful execution and delivery of this project significantly reinforced client confidence and led to the award of additional major offshore wind projects.

2026 – Sale of AMICON

In 2026, the shareholder transferred ownership of AMICON to two long-standing employees, who continue the company’s activities as a dedicated fabrication business.

Simultaneously, the engineering department was separated and incorporated into a newly established company, creating a clear distinction between fabrication and engineering-focused services.

2026 – Establishment of NORTHEX | Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC)

Driven by our passion for efficient project planning and optimized production methodologies, we founded NORTHEX in 2026 to focus more explicitly on engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services.

With extensive hands-on expertise in manufacturability, welding technology, quality assurance, and execution processes, we support projects from the earliest design stages. Our approach enables effective risk management and continuous optimization of both production and execution strategies.

Today, we act as a strategic interface between project concept and realization — ensuring controlled execution, operational efficiency, and compliance with the highest quality standards.

We position ourselves not only as a producer, but as a value-adding partner in planning, engineering, and process optimization within the offshore and maritime sectors.
